My name is Colin Hernandez and I am a 9th generation Californian. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and I have lived here nearly all my life. Growing up, I met so many people from all walks of life who had to fight against systemic inequality and injustice daily, which lit a fire inside me. I graduated with a degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder. After college, I committed myself to advocating for others. I have worked to advance LGBTQ+ rights, create equitable tax policies, promote criminal justice and immigration reform, and reduce and end homelessness.

For decades, I have seen California engage in austerity measures that have destroyed middle and working class families, all to enrich the wealthiest individuals and largest corporations in this state. The cost of living is skyrocketing for many like me, driving out the very people who built this state. While everyday Californians struggle to make ends meet, our politicians seem most concerned with catering to billionaires.

I want to create a California that addresses and advocates for the material needs of ALL Californians. This campaign is about leading with empathy and kindness, and centers on helping communities that do not have the means to fight back. It’s not about giving the state’s top 1% more tax breaks but rather, advocating for a state that provides healthcare, housing, childcare, and much more to everyone who calls California their home.
